Sounds like a reasonable plan to me but.I loathe Windows 10 and have no plans to install it so, I'm a bit biased.'-}} >Of course this may be a reason for going back to Windows 7. It was unclear to my eye whether the list of printers displayed was from the "default" list or from the list generated from clicking on the "Windows Update" button so I'm glad to know that you tried the "Windows Update" approach but sorry that it didn't give you viable drivers.

If I manually change the printer to postscript do think the printer driver will load? How do we tell why the printer driver is failing? It lists nothing. Do you think the reason the printer driver is failing to load is the printer does not default to postscript mode. The PCL driver was dropped which was available in the first Win10 code. I did notice only the postscript driver is listed.
The printer driver is still listed as a supported Win10 printer driver. I have no idea why the Dell 3100cn printer drivers will not install now at the current Win10 update level. Install the Dell 3100cn printer drivers then install all the Win10 updates. So after not coming up with a working solution is for me to blow away the new Win10 machine and reinstall the original Win10.
The new Win10 machine which started post 1803 the built-in Dell 3100cn printer drivers will not install. The 2 Win10 machines that had the Dell 3100 printer divers installed with the first iteration of Win10 still work even after all the Win10 updates. Here is where we are with Dell 3100cn printer drivers. On 1 of my working Win10 PCs with the Dell 3100cn drivers it shows I have looked under spool\drivers and spool\printers and there is no *.inf files. If I click on the printer I get open Q, manage, remove device. Can you narrow down where to look? How about is there a way to figure out which *.inf files are being used on the 2 windows 10 machines I have the printer drivers loaded on? I tried to manually load the printer drivers. I put C:\windows\system32 on a flash drive. Then instruct Windows to search that folder for the driver, with the "Search Sub Folders" option selected.I need a little help. If not then you can copy the entire C:\Windows\System32 folder tree from a working computer into some data folder on the new computer. The drivers should be available through the Windows Update option ( either directly or by updating your printer database ). If not then you will need to manually enter the IP address of the printer by creating a TCP port and then load the drivers. When you run the Add Printer Wizard it should locate the printer on the network and ask you for drivers.
